It was a day of memories.
Ethiopia seems to be undergoing massive road construction and the majority of them are led by Chinese road crews using local labour. Early in the morning we spotted our first Beijing Jeep, exactly the same kind we used to have when we lived in Urumqi, Xinjiang! We couldn't believe it!! It brought back memories of our beloved Beijing Jeep in Urumqi, the one we did the Taklamakan Rally with!
We stopped briefly to talk to one of the Chinese guys who was from Sichuan province, Matt impressing him with his Mandarin.
The rest of the day's drive brought back fond memories of our trip to Eritrea about one year ago. The climate, the geography, the people, it was all a warm and familiar deja vu. For those interested, you can read about our adventures in Asmara, Adi Gulti, Keren, Massawa, and with our friendly hosts and tour guides.
We recalled how when we were in Eritrea we said how interesting it would be to visit Ethiopia one day. And here we are, one year later, in Ethiopia driving to Bahir Dar on the southern shores of Lake Tana. Life works in wonderfully mysterious ways.
