We zipped through Manitoba, only stopping to gas up in Brandon and eat at the first ever A&W in the country (in Winnipeg).
After our burgers and fries (oh, what i would do for a little variety at fast food joints... ), we got caught in a massive downpour so despite our rain gear, our boots and gloves and a lot of my clothes in my saddle bags got wet... But then sunshine! And when the sun shines here, it's HOT!
The local rodeo in Moosamin last night was truly an unforgettable event. I think we were the only ones in bike gear and not wearing a cowboy hat. It was fantastic! A genuine glimpse into the rodeo culture.
The rodeo continues all throughout the weekend.. Although we couldn't stay for it, we took part in the firemen's pancake breakfast this morning. Yum!
We're staying at a homey B&B tonight in Kenora. It's the first major 'town' after leaving Manitoba. Looking at the map, there is still quite a bit to go to get to Ottawa... Never really realized how big the province is. We crossed another time zone too, but that just means going to bed one hour earlier which suits us just fine.
It was amazing to leave the prairies and then suddenly see trees again. I saw a black bear on the side of the road, and within a 30 minute stretch, at least 12 deer. The forest comes right up to the highway so you have to always be on the lookout for any wildlife that might suddenly run out.
Off to bed now.... For someone who does nothing but sit and steer all day, I'm exhausted!
