Spent another night at Peace of Mind Lodge, this time on fresh clean sheets - bliss! The only little annoyance was the persistent stream of ants trampling into our tent. Still, included in our camping fee here, we get breakfast and a pretty delicious one at that (see pic): Spanish omelette, toast, fresh fruit (papaya, orange, mango), fresh pineapple juice and coffee and chai. It's like those continental breakfast posters you see blown up all over China, those that are proudly displayed in a small tin hut in the middle of nowhere.
Tanzania has surprised me in many ways. I had just ticked it off as a country we had to go through to reach London, but it has been the most fascinating so far, both in people and geography. The wildlife is no doubt exceptional, but from the conversations we've had with locals, expatriates, missionaries, and other tourists, there is a lot more than just what one sees on the surface.
After a morning at Karibu Internet Café (very trying as connection was intermittent, the lighting was dim inside and it was stifling hot), we decided to go for lunch at a pizzeria nearby.
After absolutely stuffing ourselves silly, we went to withdraw money at a nearby ATM to pay the Landrover guy. It took us several attempts at a couple of ATM's but we managed to gather the necessary funds, then walked to the Landy garage in scorching heat. This morning they told us they had managed to gather all the parts necessary to install an air-conditioner in Foxy! It would take another day or so, but it will be done!! Cue cheers and thunderous applause. We are stoked. No more tsetse fly attacks! Yippee!
The owner of the garage (an Indian guy who had just recently taken over from the previous German owner), was a happy-go-lucky kind of guy who had, out of pure rage yesterday, punched a car and broke his hand when his workers brought in the Labour Department Officer to demand higher wages for the staff. Today he was sporting a brand new white cast on his right hand, the poor man.
