A little celebration is in order: this morning we got up and ready and were on the road, all in under an hour! We even had time to savour the hot coffee in the new flask (me) and complete a final spin cycle on our washing (Matt).
Setting up/putting down the tent is almost like second nature now, and every bag, equipment, piece of paper and even shoes have their own place in Foxy. There is still a lot of gear and equipment (and food) we could get rid of but it is definitely a huge improvement from a week ago.
With breakfast on the go (smoked kudu and cream cheese sandwiches, courtesy of deli in Maun), we were off!
More sandy roads, but this time corrugated. It felt like we were riding outside the wake being pulled behind a motorboat, like when you water ski.
We reached Kasane around noon, filled up our gas tanks (diesel is much cheaper in Botswana than in Zambia) and filled out all the proper documents to cross into Zambia.
Crossing into Zambia on the Zambezi was quite amusing. I consider ourselves lucky though as it was during our ferry crossing (on this huge pontoon-type platform) where one of the prop shaft literally came apart on the engine. The poor people waiting on the other side would be stuck for an indefinite time now. We still made it across ok, but that sent many screaming passengers running for the life jackets.
Trying to process our documents on the Zambian side is an episode I would like to forget very soon. So much for the smooth and relaxed procedures like in Botswana! Loud, chaotic, hot and disorganized. Not to mention bloody expensive.
Btw, what is carbon tax? I'm going to find out as we had to pay 150,000 Kwacha for it. arg.
Arriving in Livingstone, we checked into the lovely Waterfront Campsite (with free wireless) and went to see Victoria Falls and its moonbow (a rainbow seen in the light of a full moon). We lucked out as we didn't realize it was a full moon tonight.
Unfortunately none of our pictures turned out as we hoped. However, we did get some shots of us getting absolutely soaked from the Fall's spray. Absolutely incredible, the mighty Victoria Falls. Absolutely magnificent.
